Well I’m lounging by the pool, in the shade, musing about the “dog days” of summer. What’s that about? Why a dog? Anyway, the summer is almost over and I haven’t blogged once, and I’ve hardly seen my human. She’s been going around the clock; bottle feeding two of the baby alpacas – no wait – that’s one alpaca and one ‘El you-know-who’. Who knew that he’d fit right in? Guess he needs a new name. But I digress…
Lots of construction at the ranch. First, I thought I was finally getting an addition to my condo, but what a surprise! All this hammering and sawing, and then…quiet. Calm. And more visitors. Visitors who stay the night. Camping, right? But then I heard a great conversation–one that made my luxury-loving ears stand up. I overheard a visitor ask my human the difference between a campground and the “glamping” going on at our ranch. That was a new word for me, so I perked up. Glamping?
So this is what my human says about it:
Instead of cooking over a smoky campfire, guests are served sumptuous gourmet meals prepared and served by Lakeview catering at their tents. These aren’t your ordinary, sleep-on-the-ground tents either, but are safari style, raised on wood platforms, and equipped with wrought iron beds, fresh linens, and all the amenities that you would find in an upscale hotel.
Each tent has its own cedar bathhouse with a private shower and toilet. The tents have mosquito netting on all four sides to keep out pesky bugs (and goats like Billy, I’m guessing) and allow the breezes off the lake to keep guests cool and comfortable. In the spring and summer, an electric “wood stove” keeps the tents cozy warm. Throw in a giant teepee as a gathering spot, and the ability to view amazing wildlife, and you’ve got something that seriously surpasses camping.
And now I get it. This is camping like a diva camps. Or like a really comfortable, peaceful human. It’s still a surprise for me, because I had no idea we were going into the Glamping business here at Turkey Ridge. As the Ranch diva, I demand a tent!
